Driver Ricky Macomber earned his 1,000th career victory Monday evening, Dec. 11 at Pompano Park. The 36-year-old piloted Cam’s Card Shark gelding Poker Hanover, trained by his father, Dick Macomber, to a narrow 1:57.3 win in the night’s ninth race.

Macomber collected the milestone win Monday at the track where he started his career in 1997. His first start that year came March 3 when he sat behind Cane Pole, also trained and owned by his father. He finished sixth. Macomber teamed with Cane Pole again March 28 to score his first pari-mutuel victory.

A regular at Hoosier Park and Indiana Downs, Macomber has twice won the prestigious Dan Patch Invitational Pace, guiding Royalflush Hanover to victory in 2000 before repeating with E Dee’s Cam in 2002. A perennial top driver in Indiana, Macomber has made 851 trips to the winner’s circle in the Hoosier state.

Macomber is enjoying his best season as a driver, accumulating 160 victories and purses exceeding $1.25 million. He has won more than $8 million in 10 seasons of racing.
