Acting Michigan Racing Commissioner Christine C. White announced Tuesday morning that Magna Entertainment has been awarded a license to build a racetrack in Romulus, directly across from Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

The proposed track--to be called Michigan Downs--is expected to cost $100 million and is scheduled to open in 2009. It will include a 1 1/8-mile mile dirt track, a one-mile turf course, and a seven-eighths mile harness track.
