It Payday Friday, owned by Prince Lee 2, settled for second and early pacesetter Sam Hayes earned third-place honors. Reigning Gold Final champion Murmur Hanover made an early break and finished fourth and Sparky Gypsy rounded out the top five, six and three-quarter lengths behind the winner.
MacDonell crafted the win, a personal best for Majestized, on behalf of trainer Linda Duncan and owners Johnny and Kimberley Waite. Through nine starts the Majestic Son colt has now posted four wins and one second for earnings of $135,000 and sits second in the two-year-old trotting colt point standings.
In addition to Majestized's unexpected victory, Georgian Downs fans were also treated to a pair of impressive Gold Eliminations for the two-year-old trotting fillies.
Motown Muscle captured the first elimination with an impressive effort that saw her reel in pacesetter Zorgwijk Nova over the last half of the race before accelerating down the stretch to a one length victory in 1:56.3. Fan favourite Zorgwijk Nova took second-place honors while reigning Gold Final champion Seeuinthespring trotted into third. Moms Apple Pie and Choir Robe completed the top five.
Benoit Baillargeon conditions Motown Muscle for owner-breeders Bet Max Stables Inc. of Casco, MI and Benenati Inc. of Clinton Township, MI. Mario Baillargeon piloted the Muscle Mass filly to her third win in eight starts.
The 1:56.3 mile lowered the Ontario Sires Stakes record for two-year-old trotting fillies on a five-eighths mile track — set at 1:57.1 by Torch in 2007 and matched by Seeuinthespring on Aug. 24 — but the ink was barely dry on Motown Muscle's name when Bee A Magician obliterated her record.
Starting from post 2, Bee A Magician eased away from the starting gate and settled into sixth as Quiet Snow and Angies Lucky Star battled to a :28.1 quarter. Driver Rick Zeron tipped Bee A Magician heading for the :57.2 half and the heavy favorites had closed to within a length of Angies Lucky Star by the 1:26.4 three-quarters.
Although Angies Lucky Star fought a valiant fight, Bee A Magician prevailed by one-quarter of a length in a spectacular Ontario Sires Stakes and track record 1:55. Charmed Life finished three lengths behind Bee A Magician and Angies Lucky Star in third, with Magic Peach and Wind Stroll well back in fourth and fifth.
Richard "Nifty” Norman trains Bee A Magician for Melvin Hartman of Ottawa, Herb Liverman of Miami Beach, FL and David McDuffee of Delray Beach, FL. The Kadabra daughter now boasts a record of eight wins and one second in 10 starts. The winner of the $435,000 Peaceful Way Final, four Gold Eliminations and one Gold Final has banked $471,190 for her owners, who offered up $90,000 to acquire the filly from last fall's Harrisburg yearling sale.
Bee A Magician will be looking to add another Gold Final trophy to her collection from post 5 in next Tuesday's $130,000 Gold Final. The top four finishers, plus fifth-place finisher Choir Robe, will return to Georgian Downs for the last Gold Final on their calendar. The complete field is as follows:
