Major Herbie takes feature trot at Dover

Starting from post 8 was not a burden for Major Herbie who closed strongly in the stretch to record a 1:57.2 victory in the $16,500 Winners-Over feature trot on Wednesday, March 6 on a ‘sloppy’ track at Dover Downs.
Ron Pierce drove the win, Major Herbie’s third in four races, overtaking early leader Allmar Surprise after turning down the lane, and rolled on for his 19th lifetime victory. David Rovine, VIP Internet and Seafood Delight stables own the five-year-old ridgling by Here Comes Herbie-Independent Dame that has won $26,390 this year and $230,744 in his career. I’m So Striking also closed with a rush to finish second and Windsun Galaxie (Eric Carlson) came on to finish third.
Master In Charge gave Ross Wolfenden his second winning drive to take the $13,500 sub-feature in 1:57.4. Wight Byrd Racing Stable owns the Joe Hunderfund-conditioned Master Lavec-Take Charge Lady gelding winner for the third time this year. Maravich (Corey Callahan) came on to finish second in his first start since last October. Traverse Seelster (Ron Pierce) was the show horse. It was the 20th career victory for Master In Charge who has earned $262,317 in purses.
In an $11,000 trot, Lauren Allen’s Photo Maxx enjoyed a perfect 2-hole trip before Jim Morand pulled the SJ’s Photo-Affinity gelding to the outside and out-charged front-trotting Keyston Thomas (Vic Kirby) to the wire in 1:57.2. The win is the third of 2013 for Photo Maxx who now has banked $536,017 lifetime.
Ron Pierce had a driving triple. Ross Wolfenden won two races.
Rusty’s All In looks for his second-straight win facing Fancyfreeshark and Europan Union is the $30,000 Delaware Special, the Thursday feature race.
Monday through Thursday post time is 4:30 p.m. There is no live racing on Saturday and Sunday in March and April. Sunday post time is 1 p.m.
