Maven sets record in Miss Versatility opener

In just the first start of her 4-year-old campaign, Maven lowered the Woodbine track record and equaled the Canadian record for older trotting mares in her division of the $30,000 Miss Versatility Series.
Maven, who captured the Breeders Crown last October at Woodbine, got under the wire first in 1:52 for regular pilot Yannick Gingras.
One More Ginny (Mario Baillargeon), Woodbine's track record holder in the 3-year-old filly category, set the tempo through panels of :25.4, :55.1 and 1:24.2 as Maven came first-over around the final turn and marched past One More Ginny down the stretch en route to a comfortable 3 1/4-length score. One More Ginny stayed for second with Personal Style (Dave Miller) third.
Trained by Jonas Czernyson and owned by William Donovan, Maven lifted her career bankroll to $929,680.
She daughter of Glidemaster put away an 8-5-0 record last season from 15 starts. She paid $2.60 to win.
The previous track record for an aged trotting mare was set my Mystical Sunshine in a time of 1:52.2.
In the second and final division, Beatgoeson Hanover delivered as the heavy-favorite in 1:55.3 over a sloppy track.
The daughter of Andover Hall came from off-the-pace through panels of :27.3, :59 and 1:27.1, before coming off cover to score her 23rd career tally. Bax Of Life (Chris Christoforou) finished second with Real Babe (Tim Tetrick) finishing third.
Trained by Richard "Nifty" Norman for owner Neven Botica, Beatgoeson Hanover increased her career bankroll to $1,016,059. The trotting miss now has a 4-1-0 record from eight starts this season.
