A qualifying accident at Maywood Park Monday, Sept. 15, sent three drivers to a local hospital for precautionary measures.

John Roberts, Sam Widger and "Q" driver David Gibbs were all taken to Gottlieb Hospital as a result of a bad accident in the first turn during a qualifier. All three suffered only minor injuries and were expected to be released later that night.

When Love That Max, a horse Roberts was driving, made a break and did a head-dive into the dirt, it started a chain reaction that saw six of the eight horses either break, fall or stop. Roberts, Widger and Gibbs were all thrown hard to the track, as was Tony Morgan, who was unscathed and immediately walked off the track.
