Summer Snow got up in the final strides to win her $16,000 Night Styles Series division before the Meadowlands was forced to cancel the remainder of its Thursday, March 10 card due to unsafe racing conditions.
Summer Snow nipped the pacesetter BJ’s Mayreau by a neck in 1:58.1 in the first race, one of three divisions of the Night Styles Series for filly and mare pacers slated on the program. Fortunes Smile benefited from a pocket trip to finish third. Summer Snow, driven by Brian Sears, paid $4.60.
The 4-year-old daughter of Admirals Galley-Always Summer notched her third win in seven starts this season. She finished second, just a neck behind the winner Tryst, in the $43,500 White Ruffles final on January 27. Al Meyer trains the striking grey mare for Squawk Box Stable of Monroe Township, NJ.
The two un-raced Night Styles Series divisions will move to Thursday, March 17. (No second leg will be raced). The top earners from the first round divisions on March 10 and 17 will meet in the series final on Thursday, March 24. The unraced second leg of the Horse and Groom Series for trotters will be carried over to Thursday, March 17, with its final also to be contested March 24. (Meadowlands)
