Meconopsis was put on the lead just after the quarter pole, and she then held on gamely for trainer-driver Paul Walker to win Thursday night's prep for the Aug. 18 Kentucky-sired Summer Championship for 3-year-old trotting fillies at the Red Mile.

A daughter of Striking Sahbra, Meconopsis was bred in Ontario by her owners William and Eileen Stuart. She won for the fourth time in 10 career starts. She held off a fast-closing Sarong Hall by one-half length. Berto Tessa rallied well and finished third, and Centerfold Hall came up on the inside and finished fourth. The time of the mile was 1:563.

Meconopis came into The Red Mile race off of back-to-back wins in conditioned company at Mohawk Racetrack and will now head into the final as the one to beat.
