Miss New Jersey 2013 dies after car accident

Cara McCollum, the winner of the 2013 Miss New Jersey pageant, died at 4:31 a.m. on Monday morning, as a result of injuries sustained one week ago in a car crash. Harness racing will remember Ms. McCollum for being at the Meadowlands on Hambletonian Day in 2013, where she presented the trophy won by I Luv The Nitelife for winning the Miss New Jersey.
According to reports, Ms. McCollum, 24, lost control of her Ford Mustang on a New Jersey highway and hit some trees. She was immediately taken by the first responders to a hospital in Camden where she underwent brain surgery.
A graduate of Princeton, Ms. McCollum worked as a television anchor the South Jersey-based SNJ Today. She lived in Margate City, about 20 minutes south of Atlantic City.
