Moments Of Joy was an upset winner in the $25,000 Mares Open Pace at Dover Downs on Wednesday night.
Moments Of Joy and driver Victor Kirby left quickly as Rockin The Boys A and driver Dexter Dunn found a seat nearing the quarter pole. Wisdom Tree, the 3-5 race favorite and driver Tony Morgan settled, then rushed to the top past the quarter pole. They then set fractions of :27.1 and :55.
Valuable Art rushed first-up for driver Corey Callahan and pressured the leader to the three-quarters in 1:23. Moments Of Joy waited patiently in the pocket and stormed home down the inside to win by a half-length in 1:51.1 at odds of 9-2. Finishing second was Wisdom Tree for driver Tony Morgan and trainer Jeff Cullipher. Rockin The Boys A was third for Dunn and trainer Andrew Harris.
Moments Of Joy is owned and trained by Bryan Truitt and was a $6,000 yearling purchase. With the win, her lifetime earnings now exceed $200,000.
Truitt stated in the paddock after the race, “Not bad for a yearling that nobody wanted.”
Dunn won five races on the card.
