Monsignor Flan, a 4-year-old gelding by SJ’s Photo out of the Illinois champion Fox Valley Flan, kept his act together this week and won his division of the Super Bowl Series Thursday night at the Meadowlands. Last week he broke stride near the wire and settled for second; this week he was leading by 6 ¼ lengths at the stretch call and won by 2 ½ lengths in 1:55.2.
Andy Miller drove Monsignor Flan to the score for his brother, trainer Erv Miller, and owner Tanah Merah Farms LLC. Unraced at age two, last year Monsignor Flan won one of seven starts and took a mark of 1:54.3 at Harrah’s Chester.
Other Super Bowl division winners were Zeitgeist (1:56.1) and Dolce Ducci (1:55.4), are each now two-for-two in Super Bowl action, and Willie Count (1:56.2).
