October 16, 2006

The stallions ranks in Sweden have been increased as Mr. Pine Chip 1:52 ($635,875) has been purchased by a group of Swedish breeders. The 2006 Hambletonian favorite will stand at stud in Sweden. The weekly Swedish trotting publication Trav Ronden has announced that the horse will be standing at the Stenåsens Gård farm.

Mr. Pine Chip is a son of SJ’s Caviar and the Pine Chip mare Miss Pine Chip. As a 2 year old he was campaigned by his breeder, Joe Sbrocco, who sold an interest in the colt to Southwind Farm before the beginning of the colt’s 3-year-old season.

Mr. Pine Chip performed poorly in the Hambletonian and the colt’s trainer, Trond Smedshammer, later revealed he had been battling sickness. He made four starts after the Hambo but won just once, a Pennsylvania Sire Stakes leg at The Meadows. His last start was in a Bluegrass division at The Red Mile when he finished fifth in the race won by Make You Mine.

Another addition to the Swedish stallion ranks is the million-dollar winner Banker Hall 1:55.2. The son of Balanced Image-B Cor Jazette (by Jazz Cosmos) will stand at Alebäck Stud in Sweden.
