Trotting phenomenon Mya Tri kept her perfect record intact Friday night, August 22 in Indiana Sires Stakes competition at Indiana Downs. The sophomore filly won her 19th career start handily in 1:56.1, a new lifetime best. She was driven by Walter Haynes Jr., who co-owns the three year old with breeder Bob Wientjes.
“She’s really sharp right now,” said Haynes. “She was a little tired in the end, but she hasn’t raced in a few weeks.”
Starting from post three, the 1-5 favorite moved to the front but was shuffled to second by Yourcomindown and Neil Coleman. Haynes didn’t sit long, retaking the lead on the backstretch and leading the field to the half in :59. Don Eash and ABC Valentine moved first up and challenged the favorite, but the field of 10 were turned away in the stretch as Mya Tri won by open lengths at the wire.
The winning time lowered her lifetime best by two-fifths of a second. She is trained by Sara Haynes. The Pining Fora Tri filly has won $218,500 in her career.
