The Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association has compiled the list of the 42 Standardbreds that died in fire in the early morning hours of Saturday at Lebanon Raceway, located on the Warren County Fairgrounds in southern Ohio. The fire also killed Ronnie Williams and James “Turtle” Edwards, two workers for the Kayne Kauffman Stable, as well as an outrider horse and two miniature horses.
As of Tuesday morning, fire investigators have not announced any cause for the fire. It was discovered at 4:50 a.m. by a passerby. By the time firefighters arrived, Barn 16 was completely engulfed in flames and the roof had collapsed.
