Hoosier Park shipper Natural Herbie moved to the lead after the quarter and held on in the stretch to win the $75,000 Vincennes for free-for-all trotters Saturday in 1:51.4. The four-year-old son of Here Comes Herbie, driven by owner and trainer Verlin Yoder, earned his seventh win in 15 seasonal starts. Southwind Pepino and John Campbell finished second followed by a late-closing Master Of Law.

When the gate folded, Yoder and Natural Herbie were forwardly placed from post six as fellow Indiana-sired Sweet Justice took the point. The gelding wouldn’t see the pylons until forging to the front after a :27.2 opening panel on the way to a :55.4 half. Once in command, Natural Herbie set the tempo as mare D’orsay moved from third and Southwind Pepino joined the outer flow.

Challenged on the outside through the turn (1:24), Yoder and Natural Herbie held off the challenge to reach the wire first in a lifetime best effort. Bred by John Schmucker, the four year old has set or equaled Hoosier Park track records in each of his previous three starts. With the win he improves his seasonal earnings to $105,460 and his career bankroll now stands at $494,941.
