The 4-year-old trotting mare DW’s Judy visited the Saratoga Gaming and Raceway winner’s circle for the second consecutive time on Friday, scoring an upset victory in the featured $15,000 Open Trot in a lifetime-best clocking of 1:56.4.
Guided from post three by Jay Randall, DW’s Judy battled on the lead through a brisk opening quarter mile in :28.1, but was content to yield the top spot to an aggressively-handled Cold Winner (John Stark Jr.), tracking that rival from the pocket through middle fractions of :57.2 and 1:27.
Cold Winner entered the stretch with a half-length lead, but wasquickly assaulted on both sides by Onomatopoeia (Brian Allen) and DW’s Judy, with the latter charging down the center of the track to get up in the shadow of the wire and prevail by a head.
DW’s Judy returned $22.80, $6.60, and $4.00 for the victory. Cold Winner brought in $2.90 and $2.40 for second, while Onomatopoeia paid $6.30 for third.
Owned by the W D La Page Stable of North Bangor, N.Y., and trained by Donald La Page, DW’s Judy has triumphed in each of her last two appearances. With five victories on the year, the daughter of Dilbert Hanover has already matched her win total from 26 starts in 2007. (Saratoga)
