Canada's premier yearling sale is taking place this weekend in London, Ontario. On Saturday, Oct. 14, and Sunday, Oct. 15, a total of 316 Standardbred yearlings will go through the sales ring at the Western Fair District Metroland Agriplex in the 2017 London Selected Yearling Sale, presented by Standardbred Canada and the Forest City Yearling Sale. This is the first year for the sale, which is a merger of the Forest City Yearling Sale and the Canadian Yearling Sale.

This event is free and open to the public and anyone who has never attended an auction sale for horses is welcome to attend.

"We are looking forward to presenting the inaugural edition of Canada's largest Standardbred Yearling Sale. This is a very exciting time for consignors and buyers as it represents the end of one cycle for the breeders, and is where hopes and dreams are launched as owners and trainers attempt to purchase the next North America Cup or Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final champion," said Dan Gall, President and CEO of Standardbred Canada.

In addition to the horse auction, there will be free educational workshops, an Equine Expo and a Win A Share in a Racehorse promotion.

On Friday, Oct. 13, prospective buyers will be able to preview yearlings. On Saturday and Sunday mornings, there will be three 30-minute workshops prior to the start of the auction. Topics include: Ask The Experts, How To Read A Pedigree and Understanding Conformation.

Hours of operation for the sale are Friday & Saturday from 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. The auction gets underway at noon on Saturday and Sunday. (Standardbred Canada)
