With no state budget in place in time, the Meadowlands is canceling live racing as well as night simulcasting for Thursday, July 6. “While there has been progress on the budget issue, nothing has been finalized in time to allow us to move forward with racing on Thursday night,” said Meadowlands Vice President for Racing Operations Chris McErlean. “We tried to wait until the last possible moment. But actions were not swift enough to allow us hold racing.”

A decision on the status of racing at both Monmouth Park and the Meadowlands for Friday will depend on a resolution of the budget issue.

The New Jersey Sire Stakes Board of Trustees informed the Meadowlands that they have canceled the legs of their races that had been carded on Wednesday, July 5 and Thursday, July 6.

Monmouth Park’s live thoroughbred racing and daytime simulcasting at both tracks were canceled early Thursday morning.

Qualifiers scheduled for Friday, July 7 have been canceled as well.
