No Jug start for Shadyshark Hanover

Trainer Erv Miller told harnessracing.com Monday afternoon that Shadyshark Hanover, whose 1:47.4 win in an Oliver Wendell Homes division Aug. 6 at the Meadowlands is the fastest mile by a 3-year-old pacer in 2011, will not be entered into next week’s Little Brown Jug at Delaware, Ohio. Shadyshark Hanover was listed as a 9-1 fifth choice in the first Little Brown Jug Future Wager.
“We wanted to go, and it was our opinion to go if he was sharp, but with the way it’s going right now, those tough trips are taking a toll,” said Miller. “To go two heats right now would just finish him up.”
Following his Holmes victory, Shadyshark Hanover was parked the entire mile in the New Jersey Sire Stakes final and finished fourth. In the Battle of the Brandywine consolation Aug. 21 at Harrah’s Chester, he was parked early before finishing second. That was followed up with his most recent effort in the $342,875 Cane Pace on Sept. 10 at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, where he was parked three and four wide early before brushing to the front at the three-eighths, and then tiring to fourth.
“He’s just gone some tough trips, and to go two heats right now, I think it would cost us too much,” said Miller, adding that the Shadyshark Stable-owned son of Cam’s Card Shark will likely make his next start in the Bluegrass on Oct. 2 at The Red Mile.
