Northfield Park hosted two-year-old filly Ohio Sires Stakes Friday and there were a number of solid results.

Stakes actions started with a $19,800 trotting leg and 15-1 Striking Lass ($33.20) led at every call as Robin Miller controlled things with his Pegasus Spur filly. She dropped her lifetime standard from 2:07 to 2:00.4 with fractions of 29.3, 1:00.3 and 1:31.1. Favored Mona Lisa Spur was second and Photo Memory earned show money. Striking Lass is owned by the Ohio partnership of Jack Miller of Columbus and Michael Cartwright of Bedford. She is trained by Scott Cox.

Trainer Cox got the trotting sweep in the second $19,800 trotting split when Rose Run Marci ($3., under title to Pinnacle Racing Stable of Canfield, Ohio, went gate-to-wire in 2:02. In line to Tony Hall, she bottomed out the field with a 28.4 opening panel and 59.1 first lap. Ml Cupckae recovered from an early break to finish second and Count Your Credit, another early breaker, rallied for third money. Both survived inquiries. Rose Run Marci has won seven of ten starts this year, including five in a row since getting trotting hopples. She is a daughter of Lilyad and was sired by Trainforthefuture.

The single $37,400 pacing heat went to favored Cruise On Ashley ($3.60) whose 1:55.1 win was just one tick off C C Spice’s track record for the division. Dan Noble put the Ron Potter-trainee on the engine and she was never seriously challenged. Beach Resort, a county fair terror, tasted defeat for the first time in seven career starts, but doubled her career earnings with second place money, while Sparkling Yankee was third. The winner, a Yankee Cruiser filly, is owned by Winchester Baye Acres of Ocala, Florida. (Northfield)
