Northville alters schedule, race through Sept. 22

The Michigan Gaming Control Board has approved a request from Northville Downs to modify its 2018 live race schedule. Originally scheduled to race Friday and Saturday nights through June 9 and then re-open on Sept. 7 through Dec. 15, Northville Downs will continue to race through June, July and August, and race through Sept. 22.
The change is schedule was asked by officials at Northville Downs as a result of increased business with the April 5 closing of Hazel Park Raceway, which was a longtime host of harness racing but had raced only Thoroughbreds the past four years. As a result of Hazel Park's closing, and no advanced deposit wagering in Michigan, the only place where wagers can be taken now on horse racing in the state is at Northville Downs.
On the heels of Hazel Park's sudden announcement, Northville Downs officials also announced plans to sell the racetrack for redevelopment, but emphasized a new facility will be built in a nearby location. Northville Downs' current lease runs through 2020, with plans calling for the new site to open by 2021.
