Nu-Diamond Star, a 3-year-old Artiscape filly, romped to a five-length victory in 1:51.3 in the $47,000 John Simpson Stakes at The Red Mile Sunday night. With Ron Marsh driving, the filly drew off in the stretch to defeat Sheryl's Beach Gal, with Apple Krisp holding on for third after racing second for most of the mile.

Shirley and Arthur Le Vin of suburban Chicago own Nu-Diamond Star while Homer Hochstetler trains the filly. She finished third in the Mistletoe Shalee final at the Meadowlands on Hambletonian Day before heading west to Springfield, where she captured a Review Stakes.
