The Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission decided at a Thursday meeting that only the two previously-rejected license applicants will be able to submit a revised application for the state’s remaining harness racing license. The applications from Bedford Downs and Centaur Inc. must be submitted by Aug. 3.

Applications by both companies were earlier rejected by the commission, but the state Supreme Court ordered the commission to accept revised applications. The commission’s executive director Anton Leppler told harnessracing.com earlier this week that attorneys were reviewing that decision, after which a decision would be made on whether to open up the license process to new applicants.

\"These are the only two applicants being considered by the commission,\" Leppler told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in Friday’s edition. \"The deadline for them to submit their amended applications is Aug. 3. We will have a compressed scheduling requirement leading up to the decision on whether or not to award the final harness racing license. The scheduling details are still being worked out.\"
