At its meeting of Feb. 22, the Board of the Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) approved a deduction of 15 percent of one percent of all Standardbred purses paid, to be allocated for the benefit of retired Standardbred racehorses.

An application for funding had been received from the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society (OSAS) earlier in the year. At the time the Board approved the funding in principle, conditional upon receipt of certain filings, information and commitments. These included, but were not limited to, the annual filing of audited financial statements, by-laws, and policies and procedures. An ORC staff person may sit as an ex-officio member at the OSAS Board meetings from time to time.

The OSAS has now fully complied with the requirements of the Board and Standardbred Directive 5 - 2008 has now been issued, authorizing the deduction from purses. (ORC)
