Dave Perkins, who has covered horse racing in Ontario for the Toronto Star for many years, has been writing about the ramifications of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation's decision to end the Slots at the Racetracks (SARS) program. His latest column is a sharply written commentary, with the following:
"The International Olympic Committee issues a death sentence for wrestling, an honourable and ancient sport as old as the Games themselves. After international outcry, the IOC shuffles and mumbles about procedure and hints at a chance for a reprieve when wrestling's future comes to a vote in seven months. Listen up, IOC. If you want to kill a sport once and for all, take a lesson from the Ontario Government. What our elected assassins have done to horse racing is the new template for sport execution."
