The 2019 Pennsylvania fair circuit starts up this Saturday and Sunday in this northwest Pennsylvania town, outside of Erie, with 2 and 3 year olds competing in Pennsylvania Fair Sire Stakes action, both days starting at noon – the freshmen on Saturday, and the sophomores on Sunday.

Enough 2 year olds have entered to allow for nine races on Saturday. Four of the freshmen have already tasted victory in qualifying races, but now they’ll get to compete for stakes money as they turn behind Clarence Martin Jr.’s gate on Saturday.

The 3 year olds entered in force at Wattsburg for Sunday, with thirteen heats scheduled for the sophomores, including two divisions of each of the “A” Fair Sire Stakes events. Three of the four PA Fair Championship winners at The Meadows last October will be out for the first fair stakes of 2019 – filly trotter RT Gloria De Dios, filly pacer Sure R Lookin Good, and colt trotter Watch Me Hanover.

This is the first of 20 scheduled stops on this year’s Pennsylvania fair circuit. The “A” division Sires Stakes horses try to accumulate enough high-finish points in their competitions to race on the Pennsylvania Fair Sire Stakes Championship card, scheduled for Oct. 5 at The Meadows.
