Bob Marks, marketing director of Perretti Farms of Cream Ridge, NJ has announced McArdle has been retired from racing and will stand at stud at Perretti’s in 2004.

Marks said McArdle scoped sick after finishing fifth in his Sept. 27 start in the $210,000 American-National final at Balmoral Park. Driver Mike Lachance said the four-year-old son of Falcon Seelster—Lilting Laughter was not 100 per cent in that start, which is when the decision was made to send McArdle to the breeding shed.

McArdle, who was bred by Perretti Farms and is currently owned by brothers Norman and Gerald Smiley of Quebec, Anthony Perretti and Perretti Farms, retires with earnings of $2,692,604, a mark of 1:49 and a career record of 54 28-12-7. Only one time has McArdle failed to cash a cheque.

Marks said McArdle’s stud fee would be announced at this year’s Harrisburg yearling sale.
