Romance as well as riches await the winner of the inaugural Perretti Matchmaker Stakes on July 15 at the Meadowlands.

The newest addition to the Meadowlands stakes schedule is for older trotting mares and will carry an estimated purse of $100,000 plus a date for the winner with one of the elite trotting stallions at Perretti Farms in Cream Ridge, N.J.--Muscles Yankee, Revenue, Windsong's Legacy or Dream Vacation.

"We are pleased that Perretti Farms has agreed to be our partner in this new stakes for trotting mares," said Meadowlands Vice President for Racing Operations Chris McErlean. "Perretti has made a commitment to New Jersey and to trotting with their investment in these premier stallions. Through the Perretti Matchmaker Stakes, we hope to keep the best trotting mares racing.

"The Perretti Matchmaker strengthens the racing options for the trotting mares, joining the Classic Series and the recently revived Breeders Crown Mare Trot," McErlean added. "By scheduling the race on July 15, it is positioned two weeks after the Armbro Flight (at Mohawk) and a week prior to the start of the Classic Series leg at the Meadowlands on July 23. This year we also have the Classic Series finals on July 30."

"As the Meadowlands is so firmly established as the leader in the presentation of world class trotting events, Perretti Farms is pleased to participate with the Meadowlands in what should be another world class trotting race," said Bill Perretti, founder and owner of Perretti Farms.

The Perretti Matchmaker, patterned on the similarly named stakes presented annually for Thoroughbreds at Monmouth Park, offers a rich purse plus the premium of a chance to breed to one of the most in-demand trotting stallions in New Jersey and around the globe from the Perretti roster.

The Perretti Matchmaker Stakes will be limited to the top 10 entrants based on their official United States Trotting Association lifetime earnings at the time of entry. There is a starting fee of $2,500. With the Meadowlands adding $75,000, the final is expected to be worth $100,000.
