Ron Pierce, the Meadowlands’ leading driver, added two more stakes to list of victories Thursday night (Aug. 5) as he drove New York Yank to a 1:58.2 victory in the $420,000 Peter Haughton for 2-year-old trotting colts and geldings, and Reinvent to a 1:57.1 score in the $450,620 Merrie Annabelle for freshman filly trotters.

In both races, Pierce rallied his horses late for the victories. In the Haughton, Pierce brought New York Yank up the rail when stablemate Med Vac (John Campbell) drifted out in deep stretch. At the wire New York Yank posted a three-quarter length victory over Jaden The Great (Yannick Gingras) while Med Vac finished third.

The winner is a Yankee Glide colt owned by Adam Victor and his son, Adam Victor Jr. Trained by Noel Daley, this was the second win in the colt’s three lifetime starts.

Before the filly race Pierce said he was hoping to get a trip where he could come from off the pace and he did. After leading briefly going to the half, he trailed the leaders entering the homestretch, then tipped out for the brush home that garnered Reinvent a 2 1/4-length victory over Blur (Jim Meittinis) with Southwind Caitlin (John Campbell) third.

The winning filly is a daughter of Malabar Man owned by Perfect World Enterprises and trained by Brett Pelling. This was her second victory in three starts as well.
