Favored Pinkman captured the first $100,000 elimination of the Hambletonian with a world record-equaling 1:51.2 effort Saturday at the Meadowlands. Guided by Yannick Gingras, the Explosive Matter gelding sat behind stablemate The Bank after taking an early lead, then angled away from the pylons in the stretch to overtake and win in a track record time. The Bank finished second, with Donatomite, Habitat and Jackson’s Minion rounding out the top five and qualifying for the final.
Drawing post 10 for trainer Jimmy Takter, Pinkman was in contention early for Gingras, moving to the lead after a :26.2 opening panel by Donatomite. Moving from third, The Bank would take command on the way to the half (:54.3) and led the field around the final turn. Once in the lane, Gingras asked Pinkman and the favorite responded, sweeping wide and reaching the wire first.
Trained by Takter for Christina Takter, John and Jim Fielding, Joyce McClelland and Herb Liverman, Pinkman is a millionaire that claimed his 13th win in 16 career starts.
