Yankee Cruiser came charging fastest down the long Woodbine stretch on Saturday night (June 21) to win the $1.5 million Pepsi North America Cup in a sparkling 1:49.3.

With Dean Magee in the sulky, Yankee Cruiser moved into third-over position past the half, which was reached in :53.2 by favored Allamerican Native (Chris Christoforou). Allamerican Native was still on top at the 1:21 three-quarters as Magee's cover began to gap. Moving wide, Yankee Cruiser came surging down the stretch, rushing past Allamerican Native in the final strides. Artesian (Mike Lachance) also came flying in the lane to grab third.

It was an emotional winner's circle as trainer Tim Pinske paid tribute to his son Brian, who died last year while attending the Harrisburg sale. Tim took over the training, and said it best when he said Yankee Cruiser's win was "a spectacular effort."
