April 01, 2006

« Return to News
The opening of the 2006 race meet at Plainridge Racecourse is on hold. After the Massachusetts State Senate passed a simulcast extension late Friday afternoon, Speaker Sal Dimasi adjourned the House of Representatives until Monday April 3 at 11 a.m. (EDT).

As a result, Plainridge Racecourse was informed by the Massachusetts Racing Commission that further operations would not be lawful.

Therefore, Plainridge will be closed on Saturday, April 1, Sunday, April 2, and Monday, April 3. The first live racing cards of the season, which had been scheduled for Monday, April 3 and Tuesday, April 4 have been cancelled.

This marks the first time since Plainridge Racecourse opened in March of 1999 that the track will be closed for more than two consecutive days.

Horsemen and fans are urged to check the Plainridge Web site at www.prcharness.com for further updates.
