Plainridge Racecourse will usher in the 2007 New England harness racing season with an early March 19 opening. An April 2 starting date had previously been announced. Track officials announced racing programs will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays during March and April, and Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays from April to November 29.

The measure was approved this week by the Massachusetts Racing Commission with an
assist from the Harness Horsemen’s Association of New England.

Now in its ninth season, Plainridge is home to the Bert Beckwith Memorial Pace which is run on Labor Day and attracts the biggest crowd of the meet. Santastic\'s Pan with Jim Morrill Jr. driving was the victor of the $75,000 premier \'06 event, the 11th edition of the \'Beckwith\' which serves as a homecoming for many fans.

Morrill, who as a boy saw his father Jim drive winners to victory lane with regularity at Foxboro Raceway (now Gillette Stadium), has won three Beckwith Memorials. He had back-to-back wins with Riyadh in 1995 and 1996.

Other New England track openings are Scarborough Raceway in Maine, April 14; Bangor Raceway in Maine, April 22; and Rockingham Park in Salem, N.H., May 26.
