Pocket Driver, driven by Mike Simons and trained by Mickey Burke, equaled the all-time track mark at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs on Saturday afternoon (August 11) in winning the $20,000 Open Pace. The 8-year-old In The Pocket gelding stopped the timer in 1:49.3, winning for the third time in 13 starts in 2007.

Leaving from the two post, Simons sat second at the opening split behind What A View and Kevin Sizer with the timer reading :26.4. It was after the opening stanza that Simons made his move to get to the front, getting to the half in :54.2 and three-quarters in 1:26.3. What A View was second in the race with Hesoneinamillion (Greg Merton) third in the featured pace of the week.

Simons had his finest day of the 2007 meet by winning five of the 12 races. He’s second in the driver standings with 102 wins, behind Tim Tetrick’s 115.

Mickey Burke trains Pocket Driver while the owners are Sylvia Burke, Weaver Bruscemi, M1 Stable, and JJK Stables.

Previously during the 2007 meet, Southwind Tempo and Quality Western had 1:49.3 miles.

Pocket Driver also broke the older pacing gelding record of Miracle Believer, who won in 1:49.4 on May 12 with Greg Merton in the sulky. (Pocono Downs)
