According to reports, the winds of Hurricane Wilma caused plenty of damage to barn roofs at Pompano Park. The track is also requesting that all ship-in horses stay home. Reports about other damage is sketchy, but for those who have been to the track, damage was serious near the track. The Marriott Hotel located south between Powerline Rd. and Interstate 95 sustained damage to its upper floors.

Trainer Ron Gurfein told harnessracing.com Tuesday morning that he has been in some brief contact with people in Florida and confirmed the barn damage at Pompano. Gurfein, who is currently in Lexington, Ky., but lives in Boca Raton, Fla., added that he has also been told the Sunshine Meadows training center also suffered damage.

"We have suffered major damage on the backstretch," said Jane Murray, the executive director of the Florida Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association, about the damage at Pompano Park.

Horsemen that have questions or concerns can contact Murray via her cell phone at (954) 775-5112.
