Proud American made Rocco Manzi a proud owner when the 2-year-old pacing colt won his division of the $192,715 New York Sire Stakes at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway on Tuesday, Aug. 30, to remain undefeated in four career starts.

"He's still learning," said Manzi after the victory, "but he can come from anywhere and race well."

This time regular driver Brian Allen steered the Village Jove colt first up to blow by pacesetter Your Best Bet in the final turn and draw away by 7 1/2 lengths in 1:56.2, his fastest time ever on a half-mile track. Midazzler rallied for second and Noble Ian was third.

Proud American is trained by Lonny Hale and has earned $45,400. With one more leg of Sire Stakes action remaining, the colt looks to be the favorite in the division.

Scootin Delight lodged a big upset over the previously undefeated Winbak Dimensions to score in 1:56.1, the fastest division of the evening and a new career mark for the Bettor's Delight colt.

Jeff Gregory eased the Scott McEneny trainee up from the back of the field and came charging down the stretch with a :28.3 last quarter to edge the 4-5 favorite by 1 1/2 lengths. It was Scootin Delight's second victory in five starts for Uncirculated Stable of Ontario. He paid $77 to win.

"He's not very big, but this is a good horse," said Gregory in the winner's circle. "He can definitely go with the big guys."

Driver Stephane Bouchard gave Givemebackmybullets a different trip than the Bettor's Delight colt is accustomed to and it resulted in a maiden-breaking win. The colt came from off the pace in his first five career starts, but on Tuesday Bouchard directed him to the top shortly after the quarter. He then paced home in 1:57.3 and held off the late charging Pansel And Gretel by 1 3/4 lengths.

"He swell up on the front end; he likes it better," said Bouchard. " He was real easy going to the front tonight - it was :27.4 but he didn't have to work."

Ed Hart trains Givemebackmybullets for Legacy Racing Stables.

Pandrogynous, a Noble Ability colt owned by Peter Pan Stables, scored with Jim Morrill Jr. in 1:57.1 in another division. Collision, a Bettor's Delight gelding, also won for visiting Florida owner Larry Lanpher in 1:59. It was the second Sire Stakes victory for both horses. (NYSS)
