Saturday night's card at the Meadowlands was canceled due to high winds and heavy rain. A steady wind of about 40 miles per hour and rain made conditions unsafe to race. Officials at the track waited until 8 p.m. to make the decision, a half hour after scheduled post time.

The track took a second hit when the high winds led to a transformer in the backstretch blowing, sending sparks through the air and lights in the track to flicker.

The National Harness Handicapping Contest was still a go though. Players were to play any five of the Meadowlands races and one mandatory race at each of five other track. Contest players will now have their choice of betting five races at any of those tracks: Woodbine, Northfield, The Meadows, Cal Expo or Balmoral Park.
