Randy Waples penalized

Driver Randy Waples has been fined a total of $1,500 and put on probation for one year by the Ontario Racing Commission.

Acccording to Standardbred Canada's listing of Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) penalities, Waples was fined $1,000 for remarks he made on the SCORE television show, then fined another $500 by the judges at Mohawk for "improper conduct towards the judges." The ORC also put his racing license on a probation status, and ordered that he complete an anger management course from May 11 through July 10 of this year.

Waples has told Standardbred Canada he plans to appeal the rulings. He also said he expected to be prohibited from giving TV interviews, saying, "I'm the best driver in Canada and I can't be on TV anymore. How is that promoting the sport?"

Waples is presently the second leading driver on the Woodbine-Mohawk circuit, ranking behind Luc Ouellette.
