Nutmegs Yankee, a 2-year-old daughter of Real Desire, scorched the Scioto Downs oval in 1:56.3 in a Wednesday qualifier. Chris Page drove the filly to victory by a length over Cruise On Ashley.

Cruise On Ashley set the fractions while Page and Nutmegs Yankee got the pocket trip. The opening half was in 57.4 seconds, but Page waited until they led the field into the stretch to make his move. Nutmegs Yankee covered her final quarter in 28.4 seconds.

The winner is out of Salty Yankee p, 4, 1:54.1 ($275,946) and is a sister to Yankee Stardom, a winner in 1:50 this year as a 5-year-old. Nutmegs Yankee is trained by Brian Brown for owner Irving Bork of Connecticut.

The fastest trotting 2-year-old among the qualifiers was My Minnie Chip (Chip Chip Hooray), a winner for trainer Mike Medors in 2:02. She defeated Finaltab Hanover (Cantab Hall).

Another fast 2-year-old winner was the pacing gelding Dr Dew, who covered a mile in 1:57 while racing on top for trainer-driver Billy Walters. He’s a son of Royal Mattjesty and finished two lengths ahead of Something For Doc (Western Hanover).
