Restive Hanover, a Breeders Crown champion at age 2 and the winner of the Matron final last December at 3, stepped up and beat the older mare Stonebridge Kisses in 1:52.4 at the Meadowlands Friday night.

With Eric Ledford driving, Restive Hanover started from the rail but eventually yielded to Stonebridge Kisses after carrying that rival wide through part of the first turn. Stonebridge Kisses cut the rest of the pace with Restive Hanover racing on her heels. Restive Hanover brushed by in the stretch drive to win by 1 1/2 lengths in 1:52.4. She covered the final quarter in :26.4.

Restive Hanover is trained by Erv Miller and owned by Starmaker Farm. The now 4-year-old mare by The Panderosa won three of 11 starts in her abbreviated sophomore season. She suffered a broken bone early last year and her recovery delayed her campaign.
