Ridge Jumper snuck out of the pocket late to rally for an upset win in Tuesday night’s featured Open pace for fillies and mares at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The race carried the night’s top purse of $25,000.

Leaving from post position #5 in a field of 6 as a 13-1 shot, Ridge Jumper, a 7-year-old mare from the barn of Lou Pena, was sent for the early lead by driver Brandon Simpson but didn’t press when she was passed by two other horses. The mare moved from 3rd to 2nd on the back stretch and, in the home stretch, outpaced 1-5 favorite Ideal Newton to the line by a half-length for the win in 1:52:3. Mcflirty finished 3rd.

Ridge Jumper, sired by Ironridge, won for the fifth time in 10 tries this season. The victory was the 27th of her career, with lifetime earnings now topping $376,000. (Pocono Downs)
