After leading through three-quarters of the $297,000 Blue Chip Matchmaker Series final Saturday night at Yonkers Raceway, the 3-5 favorite See You At Peelers faded to seventh in the stretch as Rocklamation rallied from third for the 1:51.3 victory, a stakes and track record for 4-year-old pacing mares.
Brian Sears had the two-time divisional champion See You At Peelers on top quickly, with the mare setting fractions of :26.4, :55.3 and 1:23.2 in her quest for her fifth straight win in as many starts this year. At the three quarters Anndrovette and driver Tim Tetrick came up first-over, but Yannick Gingras was able to angle Rocklamation off the pylons and follow.
Down the lane Rocklamation rallied past Anndrovette to win by a half length. Ginger And Fred, driven by Jason Bartlett and part of a Ron Burke-trained entry with Rocklamation, closed for third.
Rocklamation, a 4-year-old daughter of Rocknroll Hanover, won her opening round of the Blue Chip Matchmaker and then finished second her next two outings before scoring victories in the final two preliminaries leading into Saturday's final.
"The trip was great," Gingras said. "When I saw Anndrovette going by, I was able to slip out and it worked out for us. I've driven her over the Meadowlands, and I know how talented she is."
The win was Rocklamation's fifth of the year in nine starts and 11th of her 41-start career. She is owned by Our Horse Cents Stables, Stable 45 and Jerry Silva. Her career earnings now stand at nearly $700,000.
As for See You at Peelers, she picked a bad night to have a bad night, losing in Westchester for the first time in 10 career starts.
"She put up some pretty good numbers, but she should have done better than where she ended up," Sears said. "Hopefully, she came out of the race alright.”
