Royal Cee Cee N raced seventh for most of the Betsy Ross at Harrah's Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon, but with a hot early pace she was fresh for the stretch drive and swept past the pacesetting Put On A Show to win in 1:49.3.
Trained and owned by Mark Harder and driven by Ron Pierce, the $100,000 Betsy Ross was the first stakes victory of Royal Cee Cee N's career. Last year she won 11 races and $297,800, with all of it from overnight competition. She now has career earnings of $492,622, with all but about $52,000 of that earned in North America.
Put On A Show did all the work in the Betsy Ross. She was made her move to the front in the opening quarter, clocked in :26.1. She didn't get much of a breather to the half, taking control just before breaking the beam at that mark in :53.1 for a :27 second panel. With challengers on the outside, first Anndrovette and then Ginger And Fred, the third panel was a brutal :26.4 (1:20 three-quarter clocking), which left Put On A Show a bit tired when the fresh Royal Cee Cee N came charging down the lane.
Put On A Show held on for second with Anndrovette taking third.
Royal Cee Cee N, a 6-year-old mare by Christian Cullen, was bred in New Zealand and imported to the U.S. in 2009.
