Royal Shyster, a 2-year-old RC Royalty colt out of the Pine Chip mare Spin The Planet, won the $20,564 second division of the New York Sire Stakes for 2-year-old trotting colts and geldings in 2:01.3, which eclipsed the old record of 2:02.1, held by both Paddington (2005) and All In Tad (2010). It was the first Sire Stakes win for Royal Shyster, who is owned by Albert and Michelle Crawford, Ann Marie Daley, and Richard Lombardo.
Dan Daley, who campaigned the stallion RC Royalty, trains Royal Shyster, who was a $14,000 Morrisville College Sale purchase last year.
“I’ve loved him from the get go,” Daley said. “I never even pulled the plugs on him, he did it so easy. He’s really going to be a good one.”
When Daley came back into the winner’s circle in race 10, with Flyhawk Jester, the last Sire Stakes winner, it marked the third win of the night, out of six races, for sons of RC Royalty. Needless to say, Daley had a big smile on his face.
Flyhawk Jester (RC Royalty--Graduation Party) went wire to wire in 2:03.1 for his second win in a row, having won a division of the Tompkins-Geers last week at Tioga Downs.
The other Sire Stakes winners were, Studio City (John Wagner) in 2:04.2; Slugfest (Ray Schnittker) in 2:02.4; Abundanceofcredit (Sam Schillaci) in 2:03.3 and A Taste Of Victory (John Di Stefano) in 2:04. (Buffalo)
