Royal Mattjesty became the sport's newest millionaire Saturday night (June 12) when he captured the $125,000 Battle of Lake Erie at Northfield Park. Driven by Stephane Bouchard, Royal Mattjesty closed fast in the stretch to edge Cambest Prince to win in a stakes record-equaling 1:51.

Favored Allamerican Captor had led for most of the way for driver Brett Miller, but yielded down the short Northfield stretch to the pocket-sitting Cambest Prince, who has now finished first or second in 31 of 33 career Northfield starts. With Greg Grismore driving, Cambest Prince was unable to hold off the stretch charge of Royal Mattjesty though. Sand Olls Dexter (Mark MacDonald) was third with two-time Battle champ Peruvian Hanover (Joe Essig Jr.) fourth.

Owned by Perrettti Racing Stable and John Rizzo, the winner is a 5-year-old son of Matt's Scooter. Trained by Nat Varty, the win was his third in 14 starts this year.
