Funeral arrangements for longtime Michigan-based horseman and Hazel Park Raceway assistant race secretary Denny Walton have been announced. Mr. Walton died last week as a result of a heart attack at the age of 74.
Along with working in the Hazel Park race office, Mr. Walton was also instrumental in the successful Great Lakes Amateur Driving Competition (GLADA) that was held at Hazel Park for the past two years. Mr Walton also organized many "Kid's Days At The Races," where he would introduce them to the sport of harness racing by giving them behind the scene tours of the barn area, press box and the starting car. Mr. Walton was an advocate for not only Hazel Park, but for the industry itself.
Funeral services are scheduled on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Hazel Park First United Methodist Church, 315 E. Nine Mile Road, Hazel Park, Mich. 48030. Visitation is at 10:30 a.m., with the services at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow.
