Wagering records continue to be set at Eldorado Scioto Downs since the Ohio racetrack opened on May 22, three weeks later than scheduled, and Sunday night was no different. Total handle on the 15-race card was $1,023,004, the 14th time in 17 cards wagering topped the $1-million mark (including one record $2-million night). In addition, Sunday's handle brought the total for the first 17 programs to $20,019,103, surpassing the total of $19,586,375 wagered on Scioto's 90-day race meet in 2019.
Sunday night's featured $18,000 Open Pace was won by Sectionline Bigry in 1:49.3. Tyler Smith drove the 5-year-old gelded son of Pet Rock for trainer Steve Bauder and Harold Bauder, with the effort bringing his career earnings past the $410,000 mark.
Smith got away fifth with Sectionline Bigry but after the opening quarter of :27, rushed his charge to the front, opening up a comfortable lead at the :54.3 half. Sectionline Bigry reached three-quarters in 1:21.4 before drawing clear with a final quarter of :27.4 to win by 6 1/2 lengths. Sent off at odds of 2-5 and returning $2.80, Sectionline Bigry was one of only three favorites to win on the 15-race card.
