See You At Peelers, the undefeated queen of harness racing and the sport’s biggest star, will seek her 23rd consecutive victory Monday, Aug. 29 at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino in the Nadia Lobell, a $200,000 (est.) stake for 3-year-old filly pacers.Trainer Jimmy Takter confirmed Monday his phenom, who Sunday won the $350,000 Valley Forge at Harrah’s Chester, will make her first career appearance at The Meadows.
"That’s the plan,” Takter said. “She seems to be good, she ate good. Everything seems to be fine.”
The card will be available to cable and satellite viewers on Meadows Live and will be streamed live on The Meadows Web site (www.meadowsgaming.com), which also will offer race replays. The Nadia Lobell will go as Race 9, projected post time 3:25 PM, and will kick off a Pick 4 with a guaranteed pool of $7,500. The Meadows is guaranteeing the pool in association with the United States Trotting Association Strategic Wagering Program. First post for the Dec. 29 card is 12:55 pm.
"It will be an exciting day for our fans when See You At Peelers tries to extend her historic streak at our track,” said Mike Jeannot, president of Meadows Racing. “We appreciate the collaboration of the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association, whose support has enabled us to host the Nadia Lobell.”
Although she was the champion 2-year-old filly pacer last year, See You At Peelers has taken harness racing by storm this year, capturing all nine of her 2011 starts — including the Art Rooney final while facing colts and geldings. Such is her following that she has her own Facebook page and Web site, seeyouatpeelers.com (maintained by USTA), to keep her legions of fans abreast of her successes.
According to the USTA records, her win streak is the fourth longest in US harness racing over the last 20 years. The sport’s longest victory skein, 41, was reeled off by Carty Nagle in 1937-38.
"How do I keep her sharp every week? I don’t take much credit for that,” Takter said. “She’s just a great filly.”
See You At Peelers has earned $1.48 million in her career for her owners, Christina Takter, John Fielding and Jim Fielding, and is considered the leading candidate for Horse of the Year honors.
Takter said See You At Peelers would race next at Tioga Downs, then take some time off before the Little Brown Jug, although he said he hasn’t decided if she’ll challenge colts and geldings in the Jug, the sport’s most prestigious pace for 3-year-olds.
The Meadows is hosting the Nadia Lobell, formerly staged at The Red Mile, for the first time. The attractive card also features Pennsylvania Sires Stakes and Pennsylvania Stallion Series events. (The Meadows)
