Mandy's Mattjesty completed her sweep of the Winter Claiming Series for $20,000 claiming filly and mare pacers when she scored a front-end victory in Monday's $30,950 championship at The Meadows. Regil Meg took the $20,000 final of the Winter Claiming Series for $10,000 claiming fillies and mares.
Mandy's Mattjesty zipped to the front for Dave Palone but threw on the brakes once there, enjoying a 29.1 second-quarter breather. That enabled her to hold off the late charge of Champagne Shower, who fell a neck short, while the pocket-sitting Prima Dragon was third. Winning time was 1:53.2.
Ron Burke trains Mandy's Mattjesty, a 6-year-old daughter of His Mattjesty-Astra Destiny, who was ahead at every pole in the three-leg series, for Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, Larry Karr and Phillip Collura.
Regil Meg retook the lead near the half for Mike Wilder, getting the jump on Lindysbathinbeauty, who moved just a second later. The two battled to the wire, with Regil Meg prevailing by a neck in 1:54.1. Last Minute Cindy earned show. Mark Goldberg owns and conditions the 5-year-old daughter of Artistic Fella-Theoras Path, who extended her lifetime bankroll to $160,901.
Elsewhere on Monday's program, Spreester captured the $20,000 Filly & Mare Not Listed Preferred Pace in front-end fashion for Aaron Merriman, trainer Bill Bercury and owner Renee Bercury, matching her lifetime mark of 1:52.3. Certified Ideal closed well for second, 3/4 lengths back, with the pocket-sitting Macharoundtheclock third. The 5-year-old daughter of American Ideal-Rodeo Spree now boasts $395,171 in career earnings.
Eric Goodell and Wilder each piloted three winners on the 15-race card. (The Meadows)
