Pilgrims Toner picked up his seventh straight victory by winning the $32,000 Invitational Pace at the Meadowlands Saturday night. With Yannick Gingras driving, the 6-year-old gelding by The Panderosa led the field to the first quarter in :26.4, then loafed to the half in :54.1 before turning on the afterburners for a sizzling third quarter (1:21.2) and 1:48.4 mile.

Alexie Mattosie, driven by Ron Pierce, enjoyed a two-hole trip but faded in the homestretch as Shark Gesture (three-hole trip) and Won The West (from off the pace) showed their credentials with big closing brushes in their first starts of the season.

Pilgrims Toner is trained by Frank Catalfamo. He now has won 8 of 14 starts this year, far eclipsing his 2009 campaign when he compiled a stat sheet of 25-5-4-1, $79,973 in earnings and a mark of 1:52.2f.
